Hudson, Stephen A TRUE STORY New York: E.P. Dutton & Co. 1965 First Thus. Hardback, Green Boards with gilt lettering on spine, 599 pages. The first edition of a True Story was published in 1930, and comprised three novels and part of a fourth (all of which had a ppeared separately and under different titles). The present edition was revised by the author in 1944, and he then included, in addition to the material in the 1930 edition, a fifth volume and an Epil ogue, the latter being published for the first time. A True Story resumbles the Forsyte Saga in presenting English materialism, with a caste of refined and selfish hedonists, who nevertheless try to s how consideration for one another. But Hudson's character drawing goes deeper than Galsworthy's in many respects. He probes through the surface and discovers man's inmost feelings with a deceptive sim plicity and clarity. Stephen Hudson is pseudonym for Sidney Schiff (1869-1944) English novelist and translator. Most of his novels are about a single group of persons. Price:
