Ford, Worthington Chauncey LETTERS OF HENRY ADAMS (1858-1891) AND 1892-1918 - TWO VOLUMES Houghton Mifflin COMPANY 1930 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Hardcover, VERY GOOD with little markings on boards, 552 pp. Familiarity with the political history of the United States since 1865 only emphasizes the fact that Henry Adams' aims were of the highest and that he and his fellow independents in politics were unable to effect their ends becaue of the irresistible tendencies, economic, political, and social, against their proposed reforms. About 1885 Henry Adams destroyed all his diaries, notes, and correspondence. He also recalled, from time to time, his letters from his correspondents and destroyed them. The impulse leading to that act is easily understood, however much the loss of record may be deplored. It is fortunate that what escaped his attention tells so connected a story. Second volume is in GOOD condition, the boards are faded, spine darkened with 672 pp. Postage will be individually quoted due to weight of books. Price:
14.95 USD
